Expression through mark making and color are very important in my work. There has to be a perfect balance of instinctual, somewhat accidental marks and extremely purposeful, intellectual markings. The viewer must be aware of the relationship between themselves and the surface of the painting.

I utilize a range of mediums and materials, from acrylic and oil to pastel and spray paints. I often work on multiple pieces at a time, which allows for them to speak to each other as they emerge. I am very interested in the relationship my paintings have to each other and think of the paintings like puzzle pieces, inserting them next to one another, continuously rotating them, and pulling them apart until something more is revealed. The square format enhances the relationship between the individual works and allow for a larger composition to emerge.
